F/OSS Engineer

Why did I start this Blog?

This journey began with a simple idea: to give back to the world that has given me so much.

I believe in the transformative power of shared knowledge and the potential of the internet to democratize learning.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to learn and grow thanks to the wealth of information freely available online. I’ve benefited from the generosity of countless individuals and communities who’ve shared their expertise and experiences. Now, I want to pay it forward.

My mission is to have a space where learning is accessible to everyone and that regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to grow, and make their mark on the world.

Let’s Make F/OSS So Simple, Anyone Can Use It!

Why Open Source?

Open source software is already a marvel of collective innovation, showcasing the power of collaboration and shared knowledge.

The true potential of open source lies not only in its technological greatness but also in its ability to extend its roots deep into our society.

Popular OSS Licenses Explained πŸ‘ˆ
License Description
MIT License ❀️ A permissive license that allows for free use, modification, and distribution of the software, including for commercial purposes. It requires the preservation of the original copyright notice and license text.
Apache License 2.0 βœ… A permissive license that allows for free use, modification, and distribution of the software, including for commercial purposes. It requires the preservation of the original copyright notice and license text, and includes a patent grant from contributors.
GNU General Public License (GPL) βœ… A copyleft license that requires any derivative works to be distributed under the same license terms. It allows for free use, modification, and distribution of the software, but requires the source code to be made available and any modifications to be released under the GPL.
GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) A more permissive version of the GPL that allows linking the licensed library with proprietary software under certain conditions. It still requires any modifications to the library itself to be released under the LGPL.
BSD License A permissive license that allows for free use, modification, and distribution of the software, including for commercial purposes. It requires the preservation of the original copyright notice and license text, and includes a disclaimer of liability.
Mozilla Public License (MPL) A weak copyleft license that allows for free use, modification, and distribution of the software, including for commercial purposes. It requires any modifications to the original code to be made available under the MPL, but allows linking with proprietary code.

Compared to the MIT License and the BSD License, the Unlicense takes openness and permissiveness to the extreme by dedicating the software to the public domain and waiving all rights to the maximum extent possible.
